Fox 13: HOP ON THE BUS, GUS

MEMPHIS,  Tenn. (FOX13) –

There’s a brand new way of seeing Memphis and all of its great attractions.  All you need to do is hop on the Hop On Bus.

The idea is not new. In fact over the years  others have tried to pull off the concept but to no avail.

So if it is such a great idea, why has it not   been done before?

Melvin Bledsoe, president of Blues City Tours, wanted make it happen. He knows the business. He started out washing Grey Line tour  buses as a young man and started Blues City Tours 25 years ago. “I had  lunch with a friend of mine who was my mentor as well at DeJaVu last day of  January,” he said. “Ray George. He’s a very good friend of mine, very  instrumental in helping this Hop On Bus get off the ground. I brought the idea to him at lunch. So he grabbed a paper napkin off the table and started putting together some figures, a business plan. So from there he went after to find  supporters.” “so we all went to Graceland and met with Regina  Gambrell and Carolyn Mireers,” George added. “They are really the professionals  on this type of adventure,  and between the three or four of us we came up with a plan and sort of went from there.”

Bledsoe and George came up with their business plan in 90 days.

Choose901: New RED LINE

Memphis Hop has added a new line to their route! The tour bus service that has always offered riders a look at the places around town that are actual favorites of native Memphians is now offering an alternative route called the “Red Line” that focuses solely on Midtown and Downtown.

A full day pass for Tuesday-Sunday can be purchased that lasts from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The cost is $22 for adults and $17 for children and will feature stops like Overton Square, Cooper Young, and the STAX museum. If you do however decide you want to see some classic Memphis sites like Graceland or the Memphis Zoo, you can switch over to their “Blue Line” for no additional charge.

We were also told that if this new line is successful, there could be an additional route of service to include Broad Avenue.
